Yamaha MT-09 Design
Fierce, muscular, and futuristic. Maybe those are three words that can describe the appearance of Yamaha’s Hyper Naked motorbike, this motorbike does appear in an intimidating style as if it describes the performance that can be produced by the engine it carries.
Yamaha MT-09 Has dimensions of length 2075 cm, width 815 cm. 111 cm high and 82 cm seat height, then proportional handlebar width and low footstep position provide an upright and relaxed driving position for those of you who have a height of about 170 cm or more.
In terms of appearance, the Yamaha MT-09 has a very robotic headlamp design, this design which was later adopted by the Yamaha MT-15 and MT-25. It has four LED lights on the headlamp that will provide adequate lighting when riding at night.
On the driver dashboard, there are several instrument panels that you will see in this section. The most common ones we see are usually always a speedometer and an odometer. However, you will also find the gear position, trip mode, riding mode, fuel consumption, traction control, and ABS mode.
The fuel tank of this nake-bike has a fairly large cover with curved accents that reinforce the muscular impression of this motorbike. However, when riding this motorbike, you will notice that the back-bottom of the motorbike tank is made narrower to support the ergonomics of the rider.
The seat of the Yamaha MT-09 is made joined between the driver and rear passenger seats, which of course will provide comfort for rear passengers. There are relatively few accents given by Yamaha on the rear of this bike. Having a simple and sharp design, Yamaha places an LED stop lamp on the back of this naked-bike and a separate mini mud cover.
Yamaha MT-09 performance
Yamaha MT-09 carries a 4-stroke engine with a capacity of 847 cc, three-cylinder inline 12 valves equipped with Yamaha’s Crossplane technology, DOHC, and liquid-cooled. In addition, this machine has a diameter x stroke size of 78 mm x 59.1 mm with a compression ratio of 11.5: 1 which will provide reliable fuel supply to produce a maximum power of 115 HP at 10,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 65 lbf ft at 8,500 rpm which is distributed through six accelerations.
For those of you who don’t know the Crossplane Crankshaft technology on this bike, this technology was first used on the Yamaha YZR M1 which competed in the MotoGP. On the Crossplane Crankshaft system; the piston will push alternately and tightly every 90 degrees.
It means; when piston 1 gives a boost, then in the next 90 degrees piston 2 will rise to replace and so on. Thus, the engine produces less vibration and runs smoother. In addition, this technology makes the handling of the bike when turning or changing direction relatively more stable.
Regarding the speed of the Yamaha MT-09, citing the GoRollick website, this motorbike can run from 0 to 100 meters in just 3.4 seconds, while the top speed of this naked-bike reaches 225 km / hour.
Suspension and Lower Parts
Enter at the lower parts of Yamaha MT-09. At the front, Yamaha provides a 41 mm Up Side Down suspension, which has 5.4 inches of travel, while at the rear, a mono-shock has a travel of 5.1 inches. Both, the hardness and softness level can be adjusted according to the rider’s riding preferences.
In the tire sector, the front of the Yamaha MT-09 uses medium compound tires with measuring 120 / 70ZR-17, while the rear uses 180 / 55ZR-17 tires which give you good traction and give you a pleasant driving experience when cornering.
For the braking system, at the front, you will find a dual hydraulic disc brake with measuring 298 mm and at the rear a single hydraulic disc brake 245 mm. Both of these braking systems use Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) technology which will give you a gentle deceleration and add safety features for the rider.
Technology & Other Features
As Yamaha’s premium sports motorbike, the MT-09 carries a lot of technology and features that will enhance the rider’s riding experience, especially in the engine sector.
The Assist and Slipper Clutch technology installed by Yamaha on this naked-bike engine will give a smooth engine feeling when you are doing engine breaks aggressively, and prevent tire slippage. In addition, this feature will also give riders a light throttle pull when used on a daily basis.
There is also a Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T), the feature which will calculate the ideal valve opening, which will adjust the fuel pump opening according to the rider’s riding style. This technology will make you feel the torque at every engine speed.
There are also features for safety; Traction Control System that can be adjusted, this Yamaha MT-09 feature will help the rider to be able to adjust traction to suit road conditions. This feature will automatically adjust the throttle opening, ignition timing, and fuel consumption. There are two modes in this feature that can be selected and the rider also has the option to turn off this feature.
There is also a D-Mode Throttle Mapping feature, a feature that will help riders in choosing the engine character according to their riding preferences or road conditions. There are selectable A, B, and C modes that will give you a different engine response for each choice.
Price and Conclusion
Yamaha MT-09 is available in three color variants, namely Ice Fluo, Matte Raven Black, and Team Yamaha Blue. Meanwhile, the Yamaha MT-09 is priced at USD $ 8,999 in the United States, £ 8,747 in the UK, and AUD $ 14,249 in Australia.
