In 2013, Yamaha released and introduced 2 motorsports; Yamaha MT-07 and Yamaha MT-09. At the time of their introduction, these 2 Sport-motorbikes from Yamaha have succeeded in capturing the attention of visitors and motorsport lovers or big bikes lovers. The introduction of these two motorbikes was first introduced at the ECIMA exhibition, in Milan, Italy 2013.

Well, for now, we will talk about the Yamaha MT-07. This motorbike itself carries the “Streetfighter” theme and it’s ready to compete with motorsports from competitors such as the Honda CB series, Kawasaki Z series and ER6N, and many more.

If we compare the specifications of the Yamaha MT 07 vs Kawasaki ER6N, of course, it doesn’t have much difference. When viewed from an engine perspective, but the Yamaha MT07 is superior to the Kawasaki ER6N. However, both the Yamaha MT 07 and the Kawasaki ER6N certainly have their respective advantages.

Design and Chassis

Yamaha MT-07

The bold design of the tank and water scoop gives the MT-07 a sharper and athletic image. The dynamic design of the headlamps and taillights takes part in raising the design level. The MT-07 used a tubular chassis that attaches to the engine. This structure is claimed to be strong but also light. Makes a total weight of only 164 kg. Yamaha has also improved the quality of both the front and rear suspension to make it more comfortable.

The Yamaha MT-07 equipped with 2 divided seat models, one designed for the rider and the other for rear passengers. The rear seat design of the motorbike is deliberately tapered to make it seem more sporty but still friendly to rear passengers. As for color choices, the Yamaha MT-07 has 3 color choices; Ice Fluo, Matte Raven Black, and Team Yamaha Blue.

Performance

Yamaha MT-07

One of the advantages of the Yamaha MT-97 is that this motorbike is built with crossplane crankshaft technology. This technology adopted from the Yamaha MotoGP bike; Yamaha YZR-M1 since 2004. With the crossplane construction, the combustion interval in the engine is closer. The two pistons work every 270 degrees, making them explode alternately more tightly. With this construction, the machine works more efficiently.

The engine configuration of this model can eliminate inertia, which is the power that occurs after combustion so that the combustion torque and the combined torque (torque transmitted to the rear wheels) are linear. The engine capacity of the MT-07 is 689cc, two-cylinder inline crosplane 270 degrees, liquid-cooled. This naked bike is able to produce 73.7 hp at 9,000 rpm and abundant torque of 68 Nm at 6,500 rpm.

The transmission system used by the Yamaha MT 07 also uses a 6-speed transmission system that can produce a power of 55 kW (74.8ps) / 9000 rpm and a maximum torque of 68 Nm (6.9 kg-m). The Yamaha MT 07 also uses a TCI (Transistorized Control Ignition) type system and also continues to apply the manual clutch system as a gearshift control system.

Brake and Suspension

For the suspension, the Yamaha MT 07 is equipped with a Telescopic Fork type suspension with front Travel of 130 mm at the front and at the rear, it is equipped with a Banana Swingarm (Link Type Suspension) suspension.

The suspension of this model has good strength in absorbing shocks when riding on bumpy roads or potholes. But the drawbacks; Telescopic suspension models are less stable in passing corners when compared to the upside-down type suspension.

In the braking system itself, the Yamaha MT 07 uses dual hydraulic disc brakes with a diameter of 282 mm at the front, while at the rear it uses single disc brakes which have 245 mm. The Yamaha MT 07 itself has also been equipped with 2 types of wide tires, each measuring 120/70 ZR 17 M / C (58W) for the front, while for the rear measuring 180/55 ZR 17M / C (73W).

Another additional specification, this motorbike is equipped with an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) braking system which is very useful in improving braking performance so that it remains stable during the accidental braking.

2020 Yamaha MT-07 Price

In the USA, this naked motorbike is priced at around $ 7,599. While in the UK, the Yamaha MT-07 is priced around £ 6,349, € 7,990 in Europe, and AUD $ 11,699 in Australia. With this average price, it seems that this motorbike is at a reasonable price, not too cheap and but also not expensive. Given the specifications and performance of this motorbike, it is quite good, especially for those who like abundant torque. This motorbike deserves to be the first choice.

Conclussion

For torque lovers, this motorbike can be the right choice for you. With the inline 2-cylinder crossplane engine configuration of 270 degrees, this motor torque is abundant in the low to the middle RPM. The ABS feature on the Yamaha MT-07 is also a positive value for this bike. In addition, this motorbike is also friendly to rear passengers, because the position is not too high.

If you are looking for a motorbike that has a lot of power at top speed, or you are looking for a motorbike that has a good top-speed, this motorbike is not the right choice, because the engine character of Yamaha MT Series are not designed for speed, but for abundant torque. Another factor that you might consider is the front suspension which is still equipped with a telescopic type suspension. In fact, his younger brother; The latest Yamaha MT-15 and MT-25 are already equipped with an upside-down suspension ini the front. Because this suspension is less stable when cornering on the asphalt surface, but has a better damping function.
