Barcelona, Spain: Petronas Yamaha SRT has finally announced the happy news, where Valentino Rossi will join their team in MotoGP 2021. So, Rossi will be side by side with Franco Morbidelli to strengthen the Yamaha satellite team next season.
The news that Rossi’s move from Monster Energy Yamaha to Petronas Yamaha SRT is actually not something new. Because this issue has been developing for a long time, especially since Yamaha recruited Fabio Quartararo to the factory team for the 2021 season.
Because Rossi’s position had been shifted by Quartararo, the racer nicknamed The Doctor automatically did not get a place in the Yamaha factory team. Because in addition to bringing in Quartararo, Yamaha decided to continue working with Maverick Vinales.
At that time, Rossi did not know whether to join the Yamaha satellite team or not. However, after going through various processes between Rossi, Yamaha, and of course Petronas, the Italian rider decided that he wanted to join the team in MotoGP 2021 as well.
However, no official announcement was given either. Rossi revealed that there are still many things to talk about because he knows things will change if he chooses to move from the factory team to the satellite team.
Ahead of the 2020 Catalunya MotoGP race, then Rossi made up his mind to move and sign a contract with the Petronas Yamaha SRT Team. He will start a new page in the 2021 MotoGP season.
“The Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team is proud to announce that Valentino Rossi will join the squad for the 2021 MotoGP season. Valentino Rossi needs no introduction, due to he already considered by many to be the greatest racer of all time through a record-breaking career in the sport’s premier class since years 2000, “said the official statement from Petronas, which was quoted from the official MotoGP page, Saturday 26 Sept 2020.
Of course, it will be interesting to see what Rossi can do in MotoGP in 2021. Surely Rossi will still be given the latest factory motorbike with specifications A, aka the same as what Quartararo and Vinales have next season.
