Volkswagen has a name derived from the German language which means car of society. As people know, Volkswagen is the car that is not that expensive like other luxury cars. The birth of Volkswagen’s company came from Germany, precisely in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony. A car with the name Volkswagen is an official brand manufactured by an authorized company that produced by the Volkswagen group company. The Volkswagen Group also managed several well-known brands of cars which are famous for the world’s population, such as AUDI, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Scania, Seat, Skoda Auto and Bentley Motors.
Even in 2009, Volkswagen Group also authorized the establishment of an Automotive Group Company which has a relation to the production process with the Porsche brand car. Actually, the name of this car was given accidentally. The idea of the beginning in given name as Volkswagen brand came from the leader of Nazi who ruled and controlled the entire German State at that time, Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler had ambitions to create various car production for the people. From that time, the name of Volkswagen is formed as the meaning of the car for people.
This car is specially designed with the size of a standard car, the passenger quantity is only for 2 adults and 3 children. Talking about the price, this car had a very affordable price for the people. These cars were in special production for the people so every citizen at that time was able to have it. The first creator of the design of this car and had become the most trusted person in the design was the founder of Porsche brand car, Ferdinand Porsche.
In 1936, this people’s car began to be designed and produced for the first time by Ferdinand Porsche at Stuttgart Germany, then the car was named KDF-WAGEN. This is the first car production of Volkswagen. The car had a design in the engine system which has 4 cylinders installed on the back of the car with air conditioning. So, the design of this car was very different from other cars. Most cars have an engine position in the front of the car, while Volkswagen is in the back of the car.
Further, the shape of the car was refined by a designer, Erwin Komenda, who is one of the car designers of the Auto Union’s company. So, the Volkswagen car with the KDF-WAGEN brand was called as Beetle car and this is the first car in the world that the engine system using the tunnel wind. In 1938, on May 26, the factory of the Volkswagen’s company was officially established which the center of the office was in one of the German cities called KDF-STADT, the city is now named Wolfsburg.
On April 20, 1938, the factory then produced CABRIOLET type-1 car which in the production had the same date as Adolf Hitler’s 49th birthday. However, the factory was used to produce war cars for World War II no longer after the establishment. The cars that were produced are Kubelwagen Type-82, and amphibia car which was named Schimmwagen. Unfortunately, the factory was severely damaged by a bomb blast in World War II.
In 1945, because of the help from a British soldier, Ivan Hirst, the factory was re-built and started producing Volkswagen cars again. Hundreds of first produced cars were distributed to all British soldiers and some of them were used for the purposes of the German post office at the time. The type car that most widely used was VW Beetle and in 1946 the factory from Volkswagen group produced the car up to 1000 units.
In 1948, the factory was handed over to the German government, and it became the main source of income for the West Germans. The production of this cars succeeded in producing around 1 million car units until 1955. The car that produced were VW Beetle Type-1. Until now the car is the most legendary classic car and the best-selling in the market. In 2009 the Volkswagen car company became European largest car company and as the 3rd largest car company in the world, after the Toyota and GM automobile companies. The style and the standard price make this car became the transportation that could afford by the people around the world.
