The diesel engine was first made by a Germany engineer, Rudolf Diesel, in 1893 and the engine named with his name, Diesel. After several decades, this machine was developed by the Japanese navy in 1907. At that time, the function of this machine was used for daily need purposes or industrial factory as a tool for research. But as the development of science and technology, the machine was used as a machine for automotive. One of the company in Japan, Automobile Co., Ltd, made a research in 1934, which was the policy of the president, Tomonosuke Kano. Two years later, in 1936, the company produced the first air-cooled Japanese diesel engine.

This is certainly a new creation in the history of diesel engine development. Model on this machine was very better than its competitors in terms of the use. Even this product had the higher position than the engine on civilian and military vehicles. Then in 1937, Automobile, combined with two other companies, changed the name of the company became Tokyo Automobile Co., Ltd. In 1941 the Japanese government appointed Tokyo Automobile Industries as the only company allowed to produce diesel-powered vehicles. Finally, in 1949 the name Tokyo Automobile changed its name to Isuzu Motors Limited and had established a strong pillar in the industry to lead diesel-powered technology.

After World War II, Isuzu Motors’ company developed the DA80 diesel engine-Japan’s first V8 engine in 1950. Even this company also developed pre-combustion chamber that had been upgraded in the war era into the post-war era as the industry with the standard of the indirect-injection fuel chamber. The company also developed an advanced configuration of direct-injection combustion. The model of the machine really interested the attention of the industrial world because the machine had a very high performance.

At that time, the Japan country still had many cases of the lack of fuel. But in the launching of the Isuzu truck with Bonnet type, in 1959, made the car got the high selling in the market and a drastic sales increasing happened. By using a very economical fuel from the DA640 diesel, Isuzu improved the strong performance on bumpy roads and had extra durability even though the truck had the overloaded.

Isuzu DL201 Engine

Later on, Isuzu Company made the first diesel engine in Japan specifically for passenger cars in 1961 with DL201 model. From this achievement, the company obtained Technological Award by Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. Then in 1964, the car with DL201 model and the first cab-over Light-duty truck Japan has obtained amazing popularity in the market because of the superiority in terms of economical price as well as fuel and the very strong endure.

Facing the era of high-speed transportation technology in 1974, Japan began to improve the transportation infrastructure in which it is supported by a fast-growing economy. In the second period, in 1971, the Crisis that occurred in the US Dollar and the first oil crisis in 1973 forced the car to pay attention of energy-efficient vehicles.

From the issues happened at that time, the Isuzu Company implemented a new development on the products in 1973 with low emissions, light weight and high output. PA model in Line Up V Series to truck with 10 Ton load and Tractor. In 1981, the company Isuzu then produced turbo-charged 8PB1-T and 6RA1-T vehicles which in the production, it used the engine with the very fuel-efficient. In 1983, this company started to release Heavy-Duty truck series with the latest series called the 810 Series.

Isuzu Company was an automotive company that had the big role as a leader in the industrial world indirect injection diesel engines for light trucks. In addition, the Isuzu’s company also developed a full scale of Diesel control electronically for light and heavy trucks. The company also made the Ultra Quick on Start system in 1981. This system eliminated the heating during start-up time and this was becoming the first time in the automotive world.

Later on, the system was put into a new Ceramic Glow Plug then in the development, it had high heat resistance and an indispensable electronic control for diesel engines especially in passenger cars such as Isuzu Panther. Until now, Isuzu is still known as the save car which is affordable for people in various level.
