BMW or Bavarian Motor Works is a familiar name for the people around the world. It is surely because this name is the famous brand of a car. Luxury, fast, and elegant are the descriptions of BMW products. The good things of BMW are not only from the body shape but also the engine and its speed. The beginning of the appearance from this brand was in 1913, founded by Karl Friedrich Rapp in October. Nobody knows that this car was actually made from benzene engine that was used for fuel aircraft.

The company which was founded by Karl named Rapp-Motorenweke that made the motorbike, located in Munich-Germany. At that time, Karl was a businessman of fuel for aircraft, but Karl passed away because of suffering a serious disease. However, the company continued to run and it was developed by his son, Gustav Otto.

In the under control of Gustav, Rapp Motoren Werke had many problems about the machine production. Even the company also had trouble about the contract of Austro Daimler. The company was unable to fill the demand for the construction of the Aero V12 engine due to the lack of permission for the issuance. Finally, the company was taken over by 2 men from Austria, Franz Josef Popp, and Max Fritz. These two men were from Vienna Financier’s company who were promoted by Camilio Castiglioni. They both managed the Rapp Motoren Werke well. In the end, Gustav Otto merged his company with Rap Motoren Werke.

Then, the company eventually changed the name to Bayerische Flugzeug Werke or called as BFW which had an English meaning, is Bavarian Aircraft Works. Then, over time the company changed the name again into BMW AG which the meaning was Aktiengesellschaft. In English, that words have the meaning that the ownership was traded in the capital market or shortly was Public Company.

In 1972 at the spring Olympic Games in Munich, a man named Paul Bracq, the manager of BMW found the Turbo Prototype with a futuristic interior and a very luxurious exterior design. The car also had 4-cylinder engine with 1990cc engine power that produced 280 bhp. In the same year, the company also created the BMW 5 series with E12 code and this product were marketed special for the American population which this strategy was really beneficial for BMW’s company at that time. BMW 5 series had 2 types of products namely 520 and 520i with 4 doors and 4-cylinder engine characteristic.

In 1992, BMW acquired an industrial design studio or known as DesignworksUSA located in California, and it was fully acquired in 1995. BMW also bought the British automotive company, Rover Group, which was known for the car product such as Rover, Land Rover, MG, and Austin as well as Morris in 1994 until 2000. Then, at the end, Rover Group was sold because of a loss in 2000, so BMW sold it with MG to the Phoenix Consortium to form MG Rover. Land Rover is now taken over by Ford. Otherwise, BMW established its own brand named MINI, which was launched in 2001.

Do you know that most BMW cars consist of gasoline (56%), and the rest are diesel cars? The production from this company in 2006 was more than 1.3 million unit of cars, and in 2010, it increased to more than 1.48 million. The BMW cars itself use a certain name system, usually 3-digit numbers followed by 1 or 2 letters.

The first number is the serial number of the car, the next 2 digits symbolize the amount of engine capacity in the cc that are divided by 100. Even so, BMW cars that launched in this recent time use 2 rear numbers as a performance index, for example, the series 116i, 118i and 120i. All of these cars use 2.0L petrol engines, such as 325d and 330d, both have 3.0L diesel engine which use the same engine block but the power of these cars is different because of the setup and turbocharger.

The luxury and speeds of BMW cars make this brand still be one of the top cars in the world. Many people are interested to have this car because of the quality.
