Movistar Yamaha Team racer, Valentino Rossi, joked if he was able to race at the age of 46 years, like the number of motors he used so far. Referring to the seasoned rider’s appearance in the 2018 MotoGP first race at Losail Circuit, Qatar, it does not seem like a joke at all.
In the 2018 MotoGP opener, The Doctor ( Rossi’s nickname) finished in the third place behind Marc Marquez in second place and Andrea Dovizioso who came out as champion in the race.
The existence of the Yamaha team racer in MotoGP is still being the main attraction for MotoGP lovers around the world. The action carried out by Rossi in passing his rivals in the race, still make the audience amazed.
The contract extension received by Rossi until 2020 from Yamaha Movistar Team has recently become evident if the 39-year-old rider still has the ability to compete with young drivers. In addition to being a racer, the presence of Rossi in MotoGP has become an indispensable attachment of MotoGP. The Italian-born rider is like a sponsor for MotoGP itself. Without Rossi then MotoGP will not be the same.
Rossi’s jokes were taken seriously by Dorna Sports CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta. The 71-year-old man thinks if The Doctor is able to race up to any age. The ability and passion of Rossi to the race is no different since he started his Grand Prix career in 1996.
“I talked to Valentino about age. Suddenly he was holding up. He said ‘Carmelo, can I still race in MotoGP until the age of 46 years? I’m using number 46. You were born in 1946, ‘and we laughed together, “Ezpeleta said, as Speedweek reported.
“I know two months ago if Valentino will keep racing. For someone like Vale; Rossi’s familiar greeting, age is not such a problem. Now I am 71 years old and am still in this business. I’m fine, in an age like me, people think age is not important at work, whether you are 35 or 41 years old, “Ezpeleta continued.
