The Mercedes-Benz EQS recently launched as the S-Class equivalent of the electric car battle. A flagship with various technological breakthroughs on a platform developed specifically for EV. Interestingly, the EQS can compete with EV manufacturers like Tesla in terms of mileage.

Yes, many electric car contestants from legendary brands might be able to catch up with Tesla’s sprint running performance. Even so, most of them failed to keep up with the achievements of running the marathon. As an illustration, the Tesla Model S can go as far as 624 km until the battery runs out. This claim is based on the calculation of the WLTP cycle (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure). So an advantage among the many EV players.

Even so, the achievements of the Tesla Model S for now were immediately broken by the Mercedes-Benz EQS. From a single charge, the Mercedes flagship electric sedan can travel up to 770 km based on the same calculation method. Impressively, a non-EV manufacturer finally seizes the throne at least until the Model S Plaid arrives – supposedly capable of breaking over 830 km.

Apart from competing capabilities, the EQS earned this feat thanks to the prowess of Mercedes-Benz development. One of them is about the battery, carrying the latest generation unit with a higher energy density. The extractable energy content is up to 107.8 kWh from a total of about 110 kWh. Significantly, it is 26 percent denser than EQC. In addition, energy management plays an important role.

“We have confirmed that there are several electric, electronic and software zones that can be turned on or off depending on the active driving mode at any single moment,” explained Mercedes-Benz electric and autonomous vehicle activity leader to Inside EV. He added, “Energy management in general is an art in our perception when developing and creating electric vehicles.”

Not only that, energy efficiency is also generated by the great ability of the EQS to penetrate the air. The aerodynamic exterior design makes it able to carve an air drag coefficient as low as cd 0.202. Success made the EQS the most aerodynamic production car in the world. Also the aerodynamics part also reduces the noise level. One of the quietest models.

Armed with Super Advanced Abilities

From the outward appearance alone, the level of EQS sophistication may be assessed. Certainly very sophisticated, smart, and futuristic. Not just style, his abilities are definitely great. For example, on the exterior features, it carries automatic comfort doors at the front and rear as an optional device. When the driver approached, the flat door handle immediately sticks out of the body. Getting closer, the door can open automatically. The rear door can also be opened automatically via the MBUX system.

Likewise when entering the cabin. The dashboard is filled with MBUX Hyperscreen convex screens from side to side. Three screens reside behind the glass panels and appear connected as one part. The 12.3-inch OLED display for the front passenger provides individual control along with entertainment. Camera-based, when the camera detects the driver glancing at the passenger display, the screen will immediately dim. Requires the pilot to always be on the lookout for the road.

Making it so smart, the EQS has up to 350 sensors depending on the supply carrier. They record distance, speed, acceleration, lighting conditions, humidity and temperature, and who occupies seats. It can even detect the winking and speaking voice of passengers. All input data will be processed in such a way as flash as possible. Become the control brain part of the car.

Certain sensors can monitor the presence around the car. Automatic parking capabilities need not be asked. It is also planned to be able to operate independently in a special parking building in the Automated Valet Parking package. There is also the Digital Light technology introduced in the S-Class. Carrying a super sophisticated light set to project aid signs or warning symbols onto the road. There are still other advantages such as rear-wheel steering to turn more agile even though it has a long wheelbase.

First Present in Two Tiers of Trim

The EQS is clearly the equivalent of the S-Class in the era of electric vehicles. The first model with a special electric platform is marketed in two trim levels. The lowest option is the EQS 450+ with an electric motor on the rear wheels as strong as 329 hp / 568 Nm. Meanwhile, there is an EQS 580 4Matic as powerful as 516 hp / 855 Nm containing two electric motors on each shaft. There are no prices yet with a marketing plan implemented late summer in Great Britain.
