Berlin, German: Formula One racing legends Sir Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda strongly opposed the F1’s decision to ban the use of grid girls and podium girls in the race. Because this tradition has been going on for decades and has become a brand in the most prestigious sports car racing.
This decision is certainly very surprising among various circles. The reason, grid, and podium girls are one of the best-selling traditions in the F1 race. In every event, the role of women becomes one of the most prominent or so appealing as an opening or closing the race.
The prohibition of grid girls is more debated because of the changed social attitudes. In addition, in certain places start experimenting with other alternatives. For example the use of male models and not women, as well as boys as a mascot.
In a poll conducted by the BBC, approximately 60% of voters said the figure of the grid girls should still exist and maintained in the F1 mat.
Hearing that problem, a grid girl, Carolyn Mooney, confirmed the motorsport model has a very important role in F1. According to him the figure of the grid girls has another function rather than simply showing the impression of glamor in the track.
He hopes F1 officials stop plans to abolish the use of the grid girls in the F1 competition. The 41-year-old model claims that they still have more work than just looking good and charming. As already mentioned above, a similar thing is expressed by Lauda.
“It’s totally incomprehensible. Women have released themselves and do it very well in this regard. So, this decision is clearly against women. I think it is unfortunate to break this tradition, which makes F1 above all women, “explained Lauda, as reported by NNC News.
